The weather conditions this time of year are usually wet early in the season but can turn to snow ay any time. We recommend mid to heavy weight wool clothing. We have found that not only is it quiet in the woods, but even when it gets wet it still keeps you warm. There are several other types of clothing available on the market today which will work as well. Regardless of the type of clothing you choose, it is important that it be sufficient to keep you warm during extended periods of glassing, and that it is constructed from a quiet type of material.

Insulated boots with good traction soles is a must. We suggest either a leather upper with a rubber bottom boot, or an insulated rubber boot equipped with air bob soles. A good stocking cap or hat with ear flaps and gloves are also essential items. For long underwear, we recommend a good set of medium weight polypropylene top and bottoms. The polypropylene wicks moisture away from your body and helps keep you dry and warm. You will also need several pairs of medium to heavy weight wool socks.

Elk/Deer Season

During this season, the mornings are usually brisk with temperatures in the 30's and 40's. By mid-day the temerature can climb up into the 70's and 80's. We suggest you dress in layers so you can adjust to the changing temperatures and remain comfortable during your hunt. our choice of camouflage pattern will be adequate as long as the material of your clothing is quiet and durable. You will want to have several pairs of light to mid-weight socks suitable for hiking in addition to a pari of well worn in hiking boots (two pair is better). Footwear should be equipped with "air bob" soles or other suitable aggressive style soles. Please do not bring a new pair of boots to break in on your hunt. These mountains though easy on the eyes, can be brutal on the feet. We don't want to see anyone get "lamed up" and not be able to enjoy their hunt (it's happened before). A day pack large enough to carry your things such as water, shed clothing, etc. is recommended. The guides will be handling the calling of game, so it is not necessary to bring calls of your own. Blaze orange is not required during this season.
